The 18-year-old, seeded ninth, defeated Canada’s Leylah Fernandez, the world No. 25, in the quarterfinals with a score of 7-6 (7-1), 6-3.
Notably, three years ago in Madrid, Andreeva won her first WTA-level match at the age of 15, also defeating Fernandez, who was a finalist at the 2021 US Open.
Andreeva’s next opponent will be either Aryna Sabalenka of Belarus or Hailey Baptiste of the United States.
This is the first time Andreeva has reached the semifinals in Madrid. In her previous two appearances at this tournament, she was eliminated in the quarterfinal stage.
Currently ranked eighth in the world and the highest-ranked Russian player, Andreeva has won five WTA singles titles.
The Madrid tournament, which has a prize fund of €8.23 million, will conclude on May 2. It is classified as a WTA 1000 event, ranking just below the Grand Slams and the WTA Finals in prestige.
